<h2>Team Captains Play A Key Role In Any Volleyball Tournament---THANK YOU!=
!</h2>

<p class=3DMsoBodyText>Please never underestimate the value or importance o=
f your
role as your team&#8217;s captain.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>In addition to organizing the team, getting together the money,
submitting the application, picking up the packets including t-shirts and
planning practices prior to the event, the team captain has many important =
jobs
during the tournament itself.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span=
>These
include but are not limited to:<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </sp=
an>(a)
attending the captains meeting at 8:30 am on Saturday morning at the north =
end
of the grandstands (and then briefing your team on any updates), (b) thorou=
ghly
understanding the rules and asking for any clarifications---then being sure
your team members understand them and observe them, (c) all week-end long
getting the team together for warm-ups on the right court at least 10 minut=
es
prior to the scheduled start time, (d) getting their players to sign the <s=
pan
class=3DSpellE>scoresheet</span> before each match, (e) finding the other t=
eam
captain before a match and conducting rock/paper/scissors for side &amp; se=
rve
plus agreeing on the game ball---all prior to the top of the hour so that no
playing time is lost, (f) recruiting a scorekeeper from the sidelines in ca=
se
no volunteer scorekeeper is available and (g) if the winning team captain f=
or a
match, turning in the <span class=3DSpellE>scoresheet</span> to the Master
Scoreboard following the completion of the match.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Many thanks to the <span class=3DG=
ramE>over
<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;</span>200</span> Team Captains at S=
pike
&amp; Dig who do such a superb job and help make this event such a success =
each
year.</p>

<p class=3DMsoBodyText>All the volunteers at Spike &amp; Dig (including the=
 team
captains as mentioned above) are a central part of the success of this fun =
event.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Scorekeepers have been and continu=
e to
be a key group of those volunteers but the numbers of scorekeeper volunteer=
s in
2008 can vary widely from year to year.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nb=
sp;
</span>That means that all of us---the Spike &amp; Dig Committee, the Court
Marshals and the Team Captains---will need to be diligent in recruiting
scorekeepers from the spectators on the sidelines as needed.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>Just as each team brings a g=
ame
ball to the match so they are sure there is a good ball to play with, each =
team
should ideally bring some extra players or spectators who would be willing =
to
keep score.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Team captains sho=
uld
also be sure that their team is consistently calling out the score so that =
the
volunteer scorekeeper knows they have it written down correctly.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Help your scorekeeper frequently a=
s many
are not familiar with rally scoring.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>As always <span class=3DSpellE>scoresheets</span>, clip boards and r=
ule
sheets will be available at each court (if someone accidentally removes the=
m,
notify the Master Scoreboard or Court Marshal and more will be found).<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span></p>

<p class=3DMsoBodyText>Court Marshals are roaming throughout the playing ar=
ea so
as to be available to answer questions and help you get started <u>but plea=
se
remember</u> they are not there to officiate or keep score---Court Marshals=
 are
covering at least 10 courts apiece mostly to watch for safety issues and get
first aid when needed.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Sincer=
