Spokane Spike & Dig was founded in 1992 by the Co-Founder of Hoopfest Jerry Schmidt. As the tournament has grown through the years, Jerry has looked to some of Spokane's brightest and enthusiastic volunteers to help maintain one of the largest outdoor co-ed 6-on-6 volleyball tournaments in the world. Recently Jerry has step down as Spike & Dig's event director but stays actively involved in all of Spike & Dig's operations. He has been replaced by his son, Brandon who has been learning the responsibilities of his father by attending board meetings since the first year in 1992. Along with the many veteran volunteers, including Phil Robinson (Head Marshal), Bryan Witter (Site Engineer), and Therese Witter (Head Scoreboard), Brandon has recruited some of the area's finest interns to bring fresh and exciting ideas to the ever growing tournament.
